<image:title>The Artwork - Mk 1 - Engineering to me always looked like a specialized form of art, but nothing could represent that better than these Raptor engines installed within Starship. Something about this black and white, stark, complex, and rigid environment had such grace in this lighting. It was a reminder of what I knew everyday to be true: there is always art in engineering.</image:title>

<image:title>The Artwork - Radial - This was the first image I painted in black and white. It’s such a technical painting that I did up against a deadline without much sketching and preparation. I guess I paint well under pressure. Along the way and surprisingly to me, the reflections in the metal were my favorite part. In the reference photograph, it looked so good, but painting it felt bizarre. It wasn’t until I took a pace or two back that I realize how successful it had been. My best advice when painting realism is paint what the light is telling you, not what your brain is telling you.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Demo Falcon Heavy mission launched the same day I applied to work at SpaceX, and this image will define the entire day for me. It was the perfect contrast of color and flow in the sky to the sleek, white rocket and industrial elements of the Fixed Service Structure and water tower at historic Pad 39A. I won’t forget that day, and I won’t forget this shot that was a privilege to experiment with and explore.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Artwork - Liftoff - The power of lighting has never been more obvious. This painting was such a joy to complete because we got along so well. Everything flowed naturally despite this end result being a culmination of a few launch photos where I updated the hardware to represent the Block 5 version of the rocket instead of my photo reference’s Block 4. Most of this painting is simply white paint on a black canvas where I utilized the dry brush technique to slowly work the paint into the tone I wanted. Happy to say this original stayed in the family and resides with my parents in my childhood home.</image:title>
